Both Labradoodles and Goldendoodles are great breeds to have around friends and family as they are happy, friendly, and comfortable around strangers. They’re both mixed breeds that contain genes from Poodles, which can make it relatively difficult to distinguish between the two of them if you haven’t owned one before. Below are some of the most prevalent differences between Goldendoodles and Labradoodles.
What is a Labradoodle?
The two main breeds that you’ll find in this particular cross breed are Labrador Retriever and Poodle. You’ll notice the dogs will have the same color coat as a Labrador Retriever but they will have curly hair that resembles a Poodle. As an Australian-bred type of dog they are great in both warm and colder weathers, though they prefer warmer climates. With a Labradoodle you will have a shorter coat as they inherit these genes from Labradors and you can expect their hair to be more wiry. They are incredibly friendly once you take the time to have them get acquainted with the people that they will frequently be around. Before a Labradoodle decides if they trust you or not, they will have to evaluate who you are. They are incredibly loyal dogs once they have decided that you can be their friends.
What are Goldendoodles?
Unlike Labradoodles, Goldendoodles have been bred in both Australia and North America which again, makes them adaptable to a variety of climate conditions. Their coat will have a golden or cream color like a Golden Retriever with the same curly hair as a Poodle though you can expect their coats to be a little bit longer than a Labradoodle. There may also be certain dogs that have minimal curling but more of a long coat with waves. Goldendoodles are by far the more talkative out of the two breeds, particularly when they are puppies. You can expect them to be quite vocal during development, whereas Labradoodles are relatively quiet dogs. In terms of friendliness, a Goldendoodle won’t need to evaluate you like their counterpart. Instead, they will be quick to jump on your bandwagon and be at your side.
Regardless, both breeds of dogs are confident, loyal, and friendly when you take the time to properly train them and give them a warm and loving home. They do share a few similar aesthetic traits but in terms of their personalities, you can certainly tell the difference between the two.
