There are numerous similarities between Nikon D3200 and D5200. If you check out the specifications, then it may be hard to observe the substantial difference between Nikon D3200 and D5200. However, if you look closely then you will find the obvious technical merits and demerits of both pitted against one another.
Let us first briefly talk about the similarities. Both Nikon D3200 and D5200 have CMOS sensors with 6,400 ISO, a 7.6 cm LCD screen with exactly the same resolution, live view, phase detection autofocus, built-in flash, popup and external connection, one storage slot and same shutter speeds. Many specs appear to be almost the same but the subtle differences can be substantial in certain circumstances.
Nikon D3200 vs D5200
The Nikon D3200 scores over the D5200 in some departments. It has a shorter shutter lag with 276 ms as against the 302 ms lag of D5200. The startup delay is also shorter than D5200. D3200 has a delay of 400 ms against 500 ms of the cousin. D3200 is smaller in size, has a better battery that lasts forty shots more than the D5200. You may not notice the difference but the viewfinder in the D3200 is just a tad larger. It is 0.52x against 0.51x of D5200. D3200 is slimmer and it weighs fifty grams less than the D5200. Nikon D3200 is also a tad cheaper than D5200.
Nikon D5200 has certain advantages compared to the D3200. It can capture videos at 1080p with 60 fps. The D3200 can capture 1080p videos but only at 30 fps. If you don’t require 60 fps videos then this feature wouldn’t matter since both can shoot high definition videos. The performance of D5200 in low light conditions is better since it has an ISO boost of up to 25,600 compared to just 12,800 of D3200. D5200 has built-in HDR, a flip out screen and 39 focus points. D3200 doesn’t have HDR, flip out screen and it has only 11 focus points.
Those who have used the D5200 and the D3200 rate the image quality of the former as around 10% better than that of the latter. The D5200 is more dynamic, it shoots faster while capturing images at 5 fps compared to 4 fps of D3200.
The price difference is not so significant and you can make a choice solely based on the specs that you get and which one would suit your needs.
