While they may sound and apparently look similar, there is some substantial difference between Alaskan Husky and Siberian Husky. Don’t presume that the former is only found in Alaska and the latter is solely found in Siberia. 1. Siberian Husky is a Purebred Dog.

Alaskan Husky is a hybrid. The Alaskan Husky is not registered. A Siberian Husky is also a sled or working dog but it can also be used for show purposes. The Alaskan Husky is never used for show purposes. The whole objective of their breeding, cross breeding and mixed breeding is to make them stronger, more efficient and to enhance their endurance. The cross breeding can happen with other northern breeds or non northern breeds. All Alaskan Huskies are pedigreed but they are not purebred.

2. Alaskan Husky Is The Preferred Dog For Sled Races, Especially If It Is a Long Distance Race.

In short distance races, both Siberian Husky and Alaskan Husky are preferred. Since the Alaskan breed is more preferred and also ideal for long distances, the short races are mostly dominated by Siberian Husky. It is said that an Alaskan Husky can cover a distance of more than a hundred miles in around twenty four hours.

3.You Can Easily Spot the Difference Between an Alaskan Husky and Siberian Husky.

The latter is a tad heavier or bulkier. The Siberian breed would also have slightly sharper jaws and nose. The coats would also have some difference in texture and color. Alaskan Husky would mostly have brown eyes where Siberian Husky may have brown or blue eyes. There can be a color combo as well.

4. Siberian Husky Usually Weighs Anywhere From Forty Five To Sixty Pounds.

Female Siberian Husky would weigh thirty five to fifty pounds. Alaskan Husky generally weighs anywhere from forty to sixty pounds while females would weigh thirty five to forty eight pounds.

Some breeders go for a cross between Siberian Husky and Alaskan Husky. They are referred to as Alaskan Amerindian Huskies.
